RESIDENTIAL BATTERY COLLECTION

We are excited to announce that we will begin collecting household batteries from residential customers (in North Plains only at this time)!

The program is fairly simply with fine details provided below, but at a high level, place household batteries in a sandwich size, locking ziploc bag, then place that ziploc bag in your red glass bin on your recycling week. These batteries will be collected on the same truck that collects your comingled recycling and glass.

We would recommend collecting used batteries (i.e. instead of placing one AA battery in a ziplog bag out for collection) and place in your red bin once the sandwich size baggy is over 3/4 full.

Here are the details of the program:

Acceptable batteries include:

  • Alkaline batteries - AAA to D - ends do not need to be taped

  • Small lithium-ion batteries (i.e. computer batteries) - must have the ports taped over

  • 9-volt batteries (i.e. smoke alarms) - must be taped over

  • Button batteries (i.e. watches) - must be taped over

Non-accepted batteries include:

  • Car batteries

  • Lead acid batteries

The batteries must be prepared correctly, meaning inside of a sealed and locked ziploc sandwich baggy. If the batteries are not prepared correctly, they will not be collected. This is for the safety of our drivers and our processing partners who ultimately handle the batteries.

There will be no effect on rates at this time and no requirement to "opt-in," so if you wish to participate, just place your correctly prepared batteries in your red bin starting after November 15th!

Please feel free to call our office at (503) 647-2335 M - F 8:00 - 4:00 if you have any questions.

We're excited to launch this new program and expand our recycling options!
